Dan in Real Life is not real

I heart Steve Carell, OK, I'm sorry, but that is just the bottom line for me. So, yes, I WILL drag my boyfriend to see a dumb romantic comedy-type movie just to see Steve on screen for an hour or two. Dan in Real Life, for which I had low expectations, was pretty much as I thought it would be, nothing more, nothing worse. It was definitely one of those movies (like Little Miss Sunshine) that comedy actors tend to make when they want to expand their "range" like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine for Jim Carrey (pretty great movies), or The Final Cut and One Hour Photo and Insomnia for Robin Williams (all terrible). But Steve was pretty understated, believable and sympathetic as the widowed father of three pre/pubescent daughters. Much was unbelievable in the premise of the movie (the whole falling in love with the psycho woman (Juliette Binoche) in the bookstore who babbles on endlessly, her falling for him, I mean essentially the whole darned plot) but really, who cares. Diane Weist plays Steve's mom [Irwin: She looks so OLD!!!]. Not really sure who this movie is FOR. I mean, besides Steve Carell fans.
